| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the TEXAS Grant Program on the occasion of its 10th |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | anniversary; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Legislation for the TEXAS Grant Program was |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | enacted in 1999 with the goal of providing thousands of Texas |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | high school students the opportunity to attend college, thus |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | helping them to better meet the challenges of the 21st century; |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, This program helps to do for Texas what such |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | historic legislation as the GI Bill has done for the nation; a |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | HOPE Scholarship program, it is helping to create a highly |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | educated and skilled generation of young people who might not |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | otherwise have attended college due to financial limitations; |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Producing more college graduates has become a |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | necessity for our state, because a college education has become a |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | vital ingredient for professional and economic success in our |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | society; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The TEXAS Grant Program has already contributed |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | to the betterment of our state by aiding 205,000 of its students |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | with funds approaching $1.2 billion for their education and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | enrichment; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, The TEXAS Grant Program has played an integral |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | role in this state's "Closing the Gaps" higher education |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | strategy; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby express appreciation for the TEXAS Grant |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Program on the 10th anniversary of the creation of this |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | innovative program; and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | honor of the TEXAS Grant Program. |
