5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
---|
6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of retired Colonel Thomas R. Parsons, who |
---|
7 | 7 | | died March 23, 2009, at the age of 80; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Thomas Parsons was born October 19, 1928, in |
---|
9 | 9 | | Luann, Arkansas; following his graduation from Texas A&M |
---|
10 | 10 | | University in 1949, he embarked on a career in the United States |
---|
11 | 11 | | Army that saw him rise to the rank of colonel and took him to |
---|
12 | 12 | | numerous postings around the world, including service in the |
---|
13 | 13 | | Korean and Vietnam Wars; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, In 1971 Colonel Parsons became commandant of the |
---|
15 | 15 | | Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M University, where he served the |
---|
16 | 16 | | longest term in history as an active duty officer; during his |
---|
17 | 17 | | tenure, he helped establish a mounted unit, which was named the |
---|
18 | 18 | | Parsons Mounted Cavalry in his honor and continues in existence |
---|
19 | 19 | | today; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Following his retirement in 1977, Colonel Parsons |
---|
21 | 21 | | remained at the university as Director of Safety and Traffic for |
---|
22 | 22 | | seven years; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he |
---|
24 | 24 | | gave generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued |
---|
25 | 25 | | counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Colonel Parsons was a devoted husband and father, |
---|
27 | 27 | | and he will continue to live in the hearts and minds of those he |
---|
28 | 28 | | left behind; now, therefore, be it |
---|
29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
---|
30 | 30 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
31 | 31 | | family of Colonel Thomas R. Parsons: his beloved wife, Graciela; |
---|
32 | 32 | | his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Paul; his son, Phil; his |
---|
33 | 33 | | granddaughter and her husband, Barbara and Matt; his grandson, |
---|
34 | 34 | | Russell; his brother and sister-in-law, George and Joyce; and his |
---|
35 | 35 | | stepson and family, Carlos and Bridget Evans and their children, |
---|
36 | 36 | | Austin and Morgan; and, be it further |

37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

38 | 38 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
