5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
---|
6 | 6 | | citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Tennie Louise |
---|
7 | 7 | | Green Sills, who died April 5, 2009, at the age of 98; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Tennie Green was born March 10, 1911, in Redwater; |
---|
9 | 9 | | she earned an associate degree and an elementary school teaching |
---|
10 | 10 | | certificate in 1930; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, She began teaching in the small town of Gallatin |
---|
12 | 12 | | and was a boarder in the home of her school's superintendent; it |
---|
13 | 13 | | was there that she learned to play the piano by ear, and she |
---|
14 | 14 | | continued to enjoy playing throughout her life; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Tennie married Frank David Sills, and the couple |
---|
16 | 16 | | spent 50 years together until he preceded her in death; she was |
---|
17 | 17 | | dedicated to her work as a homemaker and as a co-owner of Sills |
---|
18 | 18 | | Snack Shack; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, She helped to run the family restaurant and loved |
---|
20 | 20 | | chatting with customers while handling the cash register; the |
---|
21 | 21 | | restaurant was famous for its bean burgers and Chihuahua dogs and |
---|
22 | 22 | | was a successful business for 34 years before closing in 1988; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, An exemplary lady, Tennie Sills was respected in |
---|
24 | 24 | | the community for her many accomplishments; she was an active |
---|
25 | 25 | | member of Alamo Heights United Methodist Church; she was known |
---|
26 | 26 | | for her outgoing personality and kindhearted nature and she was |
---|
27 | 27 | | beloved by all who knew her; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, and generosity, |
---|
29 | 29 | | she gave unselfishly of her time to others, and her wisdom, |
---|
30 | 30 | | warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten; Tennie Sills |
---|
31 | 31 | | was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and she leaves |
---|
32 | 32 | | behind memories that will be treasured forever by her family and |
---|
33 | 33 | | many friends; now, therefore, be it |
---|
34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
---|
35 | 35 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
36 | 36 | | family of Tennie Louise Green Sills: her daughter and |
---|
37 | 37 | | son-in-law, Mary Ann Davis and Bill; her son and daughter-in-law, |
---|
38 | 38 | | Frank David Sills, Jr., and Jenny; and her seven grandchildren |
---|
39 | 39 | | and 10 great-grandchildren; and, be it further |
---|
40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

41 | 41 | | the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy |
---|
42 | 42 | | from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this |
---|
43 | 43 | | day, it do so in memory of Tennie Sills. |
