55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Tennie Louise
77 Green Sills, who died April 5, 2009, at the age of 98; and
88 WHEREAS, Tennie Green was born March 10, 1911, in Redwater;
99 she earned an associate degree and an elementary school teaching
1010 certificate in 1930; and
1111 WHEREAS, She began teaching in the small town of Gallatin
1212 and was a boarder in the home of her school's superintendent; it
1313 was there that she learned to play the piano by ear, and she
1414 continued to enjoy playing throughout her life; and
1515 WHEREAS, Tennie married Frank David Sills, and the couple
1616 spent 50 years together until he preceded her in death; she was
1717 dedicated to her work as a homemaker and as a co-owner of Sills
1818 Snack Shack; and
1919 WHEREAS, She helped to run the family restaurant and loved
2020 chatting with customers while handling the cash register; the
2121 restaurant was famous for its bean burgers and Chihuahua dogs and
2222 was a successful business for 34 years before closing in 1988; and
2323 WHEREAS, An exemplary lady, Tennie Sills was respected in
2424 the community for her many accomplishments; she was an active
2525 member of Alamo Heights United Methodist Church; she was known
2626 for her outgoing personality and kindhearted nature and she was
2727 beloved by all who knew her; and
2828 WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, and generosity,
2929 she gave unselfishly of her time to others, and her wisdom,
3030 warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten; Tennie Sills
3131 was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and she leaves
3232 behind memories that will be treasured forever by her family and
3333 many friends; now, therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
3535 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3636 family of Tennie Louise Green Sills: her daughter and
3737 son-in-law, Mary Ann Davis and Bill; her son and daughter-in-law,
3838 Frank David Sills, Jr., and Jenny; and her seven grandchildren
3939 and 10 great-grandchildren; and, be it further
4040 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4141 the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
4242 from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
4343 day, it do so in memory of Tennie Sills.
