SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 710 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay tribute to Herbert Pohler on the grand occasion of his 100th birthday; and WHEREAS, Herbert Pohler was born on May 3, 1909, in Shiner, Texas; he grew up in Shiner and moved to Houston in September of 1928 to study and later work in the accounting field; and WHEREAS, For more than 80 years, he has lived in Houston, where he and his late wife, Betty, raised four children, two girls and two boys; his living relatives include a son, a daughter, 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews; and WHEREAS, Mr. Pohler enjoys watching sports on television, keeping his yard trimmed, and playing dominoes with his friends at the local senior center; and WHEREAS, Herbert Pohler is a distinguished and personable gentleman, and he is admired and respected by all who know him; on May 1, 2009, he will be joined by many of his family and friends at the South Houston Senior Center to celebrate the momentous occasion of his 100th birthday; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby recognize Herbert Pohler as a treasured citizen of this state and extend to him best wishes for a wonderful birthday celebration; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for Herbert Pohler as a token of esteem from the Texas Senate.
