| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The state affiliate of the National Endowment for |

| 6 | 6 | | the Humanities, the nonprofit Humanities Texas honors one |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | teacher of Texas history every year as part of its annual |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Outstanding Teaching Awards; the Texas history award is named in |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | memory of Linden Heck Howell, a former chair of the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | organization's board; the winning teacher receives $5,000 and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | his or her school receives $500 for the purchase of teaching |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | materials; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Sherry Cannedy teaches fourth grade social |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | studies, reading, and writing at Southern Hills Elementary |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | School in Wichita Falls; she attended Texas Tech University and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | earned her teaching degree at Midwestern State University; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Known affectionately by her students as "Mrs. |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Texas," this dynamic educator sparks interest in Texas history by |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | taking her students on field trips to the State Capitol and the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Alamo and other Spanish missions; she encourages her students to |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | share their knowledge of Texas history with their parents; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Sherry Cannedy has written and directed a pageant |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | of Texas history titled "The Spirit of Texas," performed every |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | San Jacinto Day by the students at her school; she also shares her |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | love of Texas history as a facilitator for the Lone Star |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Leadership Academy; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, By instilling in her students a deep appreciation |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | of the history and traditions of the Lone Star State, Sherry |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Cannedy plays a vital role in the growth of Texas culture, and she |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | indeed merits commendation for the great contribution she is |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | making to her school and her community; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |

| 33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate Sherry Cannedy on winning the |
