| 3 | 3 | | join the Texas Institute for Educational Robotics in celebrating |

| 4 | 4 | | the week of May 4 through 8, 2009, as Texas Educational Robotics |

| 5 | 5 | | Awareness Week; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Texas and the United States face a critical |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | shortage of engineers and technical workers; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Science, technology, engineering, and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | mathematics education is crucial in maintaining the position of |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | the United States as a leader in a global technology-based |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | economy; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, It is important to educate our community about the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | need for more individuals to enter these types of careers and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | encourage minority groups to pursue these fields of study; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Partnerships between local school districts, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | nontraditional education groups, and other organizations will be |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | needed to bring together the required human resources to solve |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | this crisis; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Nonprofit and volunteer-driven organizations are |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | already achieving significant progress toward the goal of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | greater scientific and technological literacy; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Texas Educational Robotics Awareness Week is an |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | excellent opportunity for students to demonstrate their |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | achievements in robotics and for the public to learn more about |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | this exciting field; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby proclaim the week of May 4 through 8, 2009, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | as Texas Educational Robotics Awareness Week; and, be it further |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
