| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Hondo Municipal Airport, which has been selected to |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | receive the 2009 Airport of the Year Award; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The airport has been selected by the Aviation |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Division of the Texas Department of Transportation and will |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | receive the award at a banquet on May 12; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Over the last five years, the airport has been |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | under development, and in the last year, two Texas Department of |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Transportation grants funded an airport terminal building and a |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | fuel facility; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Under the leadership of city manager Robert |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Herrera, the City of Hondo has developed a 1,400-acre industrial |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | park at the airport, including a rail spur to connect the airport |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | to the Union Pacific Railroad; it is the only general aviation |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | airport that has a rail line transfer business at the airport |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | where the city has retained the option of purchasing the spur; |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, The city also encouraged Patrick and Michael |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Corrigan to locate their aircraft interior shop at the airport, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | creating a partnership that evolved into Corrigan Air Center; in |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the fall of 2008, the airport brought Air Evac Lifeteam to the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | field, which provides emergency medical services to the region; |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The city has entered into a long-term lease with |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Wright Flyers to develop Hondo International Flight Training |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Academy; Wright Flyers is a certified pilot training school for |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | recreational as well as commercial pilots; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Tim Fousse, the airport manager, and Robert |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Herrera have worked closely together to achieve all the airport |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | upgrades, and the result is a full-service airport with |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | improvements rarely found in cities the size of Hondo; now, |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Legislature, hereby commend all who participated in the |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | development and improvement of the Hondo Municipal Airport and |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | extend congratulations to them on the airport's selection as the |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | 2009 Airport of the Year; and, be it further |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | the Hondo Municipal Airport. |
