SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 731
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Stinson Municipal Airport, which has been selected to
receive the 2009 Reliever Airport of the Year Award; and
WHEREAS, The airport has been selected by the Aviation
Division of the Texas Department of Transportation and will
receive the award at a banquet on May 12; and
WHEREAS, Located in San Antonio, Stinson Municipal Airport
plays a major role as a commercial and recreational air center;
it has overcome many challenges during its 90-year history and is
dedicated to meeting the current aviation needs of the community;
and
WHEREAS, The airport is completing a runway extension and
improvement project to meet current aviation standards for more
extensive commercial activity; the airport offers a variety of
services and is a popular destination for student pilots who
appreciate the small control tower and its friendly, dedicated
staff; and
WHEREAS, The City of San Antonio has completed a land use
and compatibility plan for the airport and has invested close to
$5 million in the development and construction of a new terminal
and administrative complex; the city has paid tribute to the long
history of the airport by showcasing its past in the new
terminal; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
Legislature, hereby commend all who have participated in making
the Stinson Municipal Airport the popular and useful center for
aviation it is today and extend congratulations to them on the
airport's selection as the 2009 Reliever Airport of the Year;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the Stinson Municipal Airport.
