| 3 | 3 | | recognize the late Maudeen Marks, who is being inducted into the |

| 4 | 4 | | Frontier Times Museum Hall of Honor in Bandera on July 25, 2009; |

| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Frontier Times Museum was established in 1933 |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | by J. Marvin Hunter to showcase the exploits of the pioneers |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | whose courage and strength of character played a major role in |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | the opening of the West and the creation of the icon known as the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | true Texan; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, A member of a longtime Texas family, Maudeen Marks |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | played a major role in the creation of the Houston Fat Stock Show |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and Livestock Exhibition, which has evolved into the Houston |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Livestock Show and Rodeo; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Maudeen Marks was instrumental in the founding of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the Texas Longhorn Breeders Association, and her family's herd of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | this iconic breed is one of the association's foundation herds; |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | she also organized the Ladies of Texas Traditions trail riders |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | and the Salt Grass Trail Ride; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Maudeen Marks embodied the principles and courage |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | exhibited by the early pioneers memorialized in the Frontier |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Times Museum, and it is truly fitting that she be given this |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | singular honor on July 25, 2009, the National Day of the American |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Cowboy; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life and work of Maudeen |
