| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay |

| 3 | 3 | | tribute to the late J. Frank Dobie, who is being inducted into the |

| 4 | 4 | | Frontier Times Museum Hall of Honor in Bandera on July 25, 2009; |

| 5 | 5 | | and |

| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Frontier Times Museum was established in 1933 |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | by J. Marvin Hunter to showcase the exploits of the pioneers |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | whose courage and strength of character played a major role in |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | the opening of the West and the creation of the icon known as the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | true Texan; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, J. Frank Dobie was an author, professor, and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | lecturer who was among the first to recognize that the stories of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | cowboys and vaqueros were as valid a form of literature as the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | stories of such authors as Cervantes and Chaucer; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Dobie's pioneering work in collecting the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | stories of the southwest helped create a renewed pride in our |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | state's history and traditions, and his belief in a liberated |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | mind set an indelible example for generations of men and women of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | letters; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, J. Frank Dobie embodied the principles and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | courage exhibited by the early pioneers memorialized in the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Frontier Times Museum, and it is truly fitting that he be given |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | this singular honor on July 25, 2009, the National Day of the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | American Cowboy; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby honor the life and work of J. Frank Dobie; |
