SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 743 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Ray Wharton of Bandera, who is being inducted into the Frontier Times Museum Hall of Honor in Bandera on July 25, 2009; and WHEREAS, The Frontier Times Museum was established in 1933 by J. Marvin Hunter to showcase the exploits of the pioneers whose courage and strength of character played a major role in the opening of the West and the creation of the icon known as the true Texan; and WHEREAS, The 1957 world champion calf roper, Mr. Wharton has for many years displayed the best attributes of the Texas cowboy; he generously offered his ranch as a place to stay for many young cowboys as they were getting started; and WHEREAS, Known for his gentlemanly ways, Mr. Wharton served as a mentor to many young cowboys, including African Americans in the days when they were not always welcome; his natural ability to promote the confidence of others serves as an inspiration to all who know him; and WHEREAS, Ray Wharton embodies the principles and courage exhibited by the early pioneers memorialized in the Frontier Times Museum, and it is truly fitting that he receive this singular honor on July 25, 2009, the National Day of the American Cowboy; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend Ray Wharton for his many contributions to the rich legacy of our state and extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
