2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

3 | 3 | | recognize Emilio "Ray" Aguirre, who has been selected for the |
---|
4 | 4 | | Texas Community Health Network's first annual Unsung Heroes |
---|
5 | 5 | | Award; and |
---|
6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Ray Aguirre graduated from Sidney Lanier High |
---|
7 | 7 | | School in 1946 and joined the United States Marines; he served |
---|
8 | 8 | | honorably until 1947, when he was placed in the Marine Corps |
---|
9 | 9 | | Reserve; and |
---|
10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, He was called to active duty in August of 1950 |
---|
11 | 11 | | during the Korean Conflict and fought against the Chinese in the |
---|
12 | 12 | | Battle at the Chosin Valley Reservoir, where he was wounded and |
---|
13 | 13 | | endured severe frostbite; he received the Purple Heart, retired |
---|
14 | 14 | | with 100 percent disability, and subsequently wrote about his |
---|
15 | 15 | | experiences in the book, We'll Be Home for Christmas; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, He began civilian life in 1951 as a sheet metal |
---|
17 | 17 | | worker; he was curator for the Museum of Aerospace Medicine at |
---|
18 | 18 | | Brooks Air Force Base; a talented artist, he became a medical |
---|
19 | 19 | | book illustrator, and he painted a picture depicting the first |
---|
20 | 20 | | man on the moon that still stands inside the historic Brooks City |
---|
21 | 21 | | Base Hangar 9; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, He was a founder of the San Antonio Chapter of the |
---|
23 | 23 | | Chosin Few and a member of the Purple Heart Association and |
---|
24 | 24 | | Disabled American Veterans Association; he is past president of |
---|
25 | 25 | | Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9186; he designed and directed the |
---|
26 | 26 | | building of the Korean War Veterans Memorial that stands in front |
---|
27 | 27 | | of the Municipal Auditorium; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father of four, Ray Aguirre |
---|
29 | 29 | | has long been a respected leader in his community, active in |
---|
30 | 30 | | youth athletics and fundraising for various causes; in |
---|
31 | 31 | | retirement, he has served as a volunteer for the Memorial |
---|
32 | 32 | | Detachment Service at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Heroes are those individuals who inspire us by |
---|
34 | 34 | | their courage, sacrifice, and perseverance in facing challenges; |
---|
35 | 35 | | Ray Aguirre exemplifies the true spirit of heroism through his |
---|
36 | 36 | | service, his allegiance, and his commitment to helping others; he |
---|
37 | 37 | | is indeed worthy of special recognition; now, therefore, be it |
---|
38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
---|
39 | 39 | | Legislature, hereby commend Emilio "Ray" Aguirre for his loyalty |
---|
40 | 40 | | and selfless service to others and congratulate him on being |
---|
41 | 41 | | selected for the Texas Community Health Network's first annual |
---|
42 | 42 | | Unsung Heroes Award; and, be it further |
---|
43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

44 | 44 | | him as an expression of highest regard from the Texas Senate. |
