| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |

| 6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of longtime educator Willye Stene Witcher |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Perry Williams, who died April 7, 2009, at the age of 64; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, She was born Willye Stene Witcher in Henderson, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Texas, on March 8, 1945; she chose education as her life's |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | vocation because she always liked helping people learn; she |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | earned a bachelor of science degree in education from The |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | University of Texas at Austin in 1967; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, She began her career in Gary, Indiana, as a |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | special education teacher; she relocated to Los Angeles, where |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | she held varied assignments as an educator and received wide |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | recognition for her outstanding talents, being named Teacher of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the Year and receiving an Exceptional Teacher Award; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, She also continued her education in California; |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | she earned a master's degree in education and took advanced |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | courses at Pepperdine University and Chapman College; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Willye Stene Williams retired from the Los |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Angeles Unified School District in 2000 and continued to work as |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | a substitute teacher for the next eight years; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, She was an educator, humanitarian, and a devout |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Christian, whose faith continued to grow over the years; she |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | loved traveling; she went to West Africa with the family of Alex |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Haley and traveled to various parts of Europe and on many |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | cruises; she will be dearly missed by all who knew her; now, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Willye Stene |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Witcher Perry Williams and extend sincere condolences to her |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | bereaved family; and, be it further |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 35 | 35 | | her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
