55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of longtime educator Willye Stene Witcher
77 Perry Williams, who died April 7, 2009, at the age of 64; and
88 WHEREAS, She was born Willye Stene Witcher in Henderson,
99 Texas, on March 8, 1945; she chose education as her life's
1010 vocation because she always liked helping people learn; she
1111 earned a bachelor of science degree in education from The
1212 University of Texas at Austin in 1967; and
1313 WHEREAS, She began her career in Gary, Indiana, as a
1414 special education teacher; she relocated to Los Angeles, where
1515 she held varied assignments as an educator and received wide
1616 recognition for her outstanding talents, being named Teacher of
1717 the Year and receiving an Exceptional Teacher Award; and
1818 WHEREAS, She also continued her education in California;
1919 she earned a master's degree in education and took advanced
2020 courses at Pepperdine University and Chapman College; and
2121 WHEREAS, Willye Stene Williams retired from the Los
2222 Angeles Unified School District in 2000 and continued to work as
2323 a substitute teacher for the next eight years; and
2424 WHEREAS, She was an educator, humanitarian, and a devout
2525 Christian, whose faith continued to grow over the years; she
2626 loved traveling; she went to West Africa with the family of Alex
2727 Haley and traveled to various parts of Europe and on many
2828 cruises; she will be dearly missed by all who knew her; now,
2929 therefore, be it
3030 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
3131 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Willye Stene
3232 Witcher Perry Williams and extend sincere condolences to her
3333 bereaved family; and, be it further
3434 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3535 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3636 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
3737 memory of Willye Stene Williams.
