| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join citizens across the state in celebrating January 14, 2009, |

| 4 | 4 | | as Andrews Day at the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Located at the heart of the Permian Basin, Andrews |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | is the county seat of Andrews County, a vast region of rolling |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | prairie typical of the southern High Plains; the county ranks |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | second in oil production among counties in the Permian Basin, a |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | region that holds 25 percent of the nation's oil and gas |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | reserves; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The City of Andrews offers a healthy |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | entrepreneurial environment and diversified economy that promote |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the progressive growth of the city and the surrounding area; city |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | leaders have proven to be forward-thinking and innovative in |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | supporting the infrastructure to sustain the city's "Move Ahead" |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | attitude; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The City of Andrews offers citizens and visitors |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | alike a wide range of recreational opportunities, including a |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | challenging 18-hole golf course and a number of outstanding parks |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | and athletic facilities; with two annual bluegrass festivals and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | such attractions as the Andrews County Junior Livestock Show and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the annual arts and crafts shows, Andrews has created an |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | environment where the arts and culture thrive; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, With its can-do attitude and hardworking |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | population, the City of Andrews stands poised to move into a |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | bright future; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Andrews for their |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | many contributions to our state and extend to them best wishes |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | for a memorable Andrews Day at the State Capitol; and, be it |

| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
