| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Dallas music group The Nightcaps, who are |

| 4 | 4 | | celebrating their 50th year in show business with a performance |

| 5 | 5 | | at the Lakewood Theater on May 29, 2009; and |

| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, This rhythm and blues group was formed in Dallas |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | in 1959; current members of the group include original members |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Billy Joe Shine and Gene Haufler, Denny Mills, who joined The |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Nightcaps in 1962, Lenny Mills, who joined the group in 1968, and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Mark Minton, who joined in 1997; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The Nightcaps' first big hit was "Wine, Wine, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Wine," recorded in 1960; the song was listed in the April, 2002, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | edition of Texas Monthly magazine as one of the best 100 songs in |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Texas music history; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The group's second hit was "Thunderbird," a song |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | for which Jimmie Vaughan would later name his group and which |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | would be included in ZZ Top's Fandango album; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The Nightcaps became fixtures in the Dallas music |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | scene and had an enormous influence on blues music and the rhythm |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | and blues acts that would follow them; they do indeed deserve |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | recognition for their enduring talent and for providing the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | public with half a century of first-rate musical entertainment; |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate members of The Nightcaps on |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | their 50th year as a top Dallas performing group and extend to all |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | best wishes for continuing success; and, be it further |

| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
