                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 801
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize The University of Texas at San Antonio on the occasion
 of the institution's 40th anniversary; and
 WHEREAS, The University of Texas at San Antonio was created
 by the Texas Legislature in 1969, and by 1973, more than 670
 students had enrolled in its graduate level courses; today, the
 university can claim an enrollment of more than 28,000 students
 and a total of 72,000 alumni; and
 WHEREAS, The university is now one of the fastest-growing
 public universities in Texas and a proud component of The
 University of Texas System; the school generates an annual
 economic impact of $1.2 billion; and
 WHEREAS, The Texas Legislature, The University of Texas
 System Board of Regents, The University of Texas at San Antonio
 Development Board, the university's alumni, the City of San
 Antonio, Bexar County officials, and many public and private
 sector partners have helped The University of Texas at San
 Antonio to build on a tradition of access and opportunity; and
 WHEREAS, The university has emerged as a national research
 university that provides world-class research and educational
 opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students and that
 prepares students for the global environment; now, therefore, be
 it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
 Legislature, hereby commend The University of Texas at San
 Antonio on its long-standing commitment to serving students and
 extend best wishes to all associated with the university for an
 outstanding and memorable 40th anniversary celebration; and, be
 it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 The University of Texas at San Antonio as an expression of high
 regard from the Texas Senate.
