11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 802
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize the residents of the Greater Channel Area who are
44 observing the National Day of Prayer on May 7, 2009; and
55 WHEREAS, On the National Day of Prayer, members of all
66 faiths are encouraged to come together to pray according to their
77 own tradition and in their own way; and
88 WHEREAS, Civic prayers and national days of prayer have had
99 a long and enduring history in America, dating back to the First
1010 Continental Congress in 1775; the annual National Day of Prayer
1111 was established by Congress in 1952; and
1212 WHEREAS, The founders of our nation had a strong belief in
1313 God and in the power of prayer, and the National Day of Prayer is
1414 an opportunity for citizens to reflect on our history and pay
1515 homage to our moral and religious heritage; and
1616 WHEREAS, This year, for the 20th consecutive year,
1717 residents of the Greater Channel Area are gathering on the steps
1818 of Galena Park City Hall to celebrate the National Day of Prayer;
1919 now, therefore, be it
2020 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
2121 Legislature, hereby commend the residents of the Greater Channel
2222 Area for observing the National Day of Prayer and extend best
2323 wishes for a moving and inspirational event; and, be it further
2424 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2525 the occasion as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
