| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the residents of the Greater Channel Area who are |

| 4 | 4 | | observing the National Day of Prayer on May 7, 2009; and |

| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, On the National Day of Prayer, members of all |

| 6 | 6 | | faiths are encouraged to come together to pray according to their |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | own tradition and in their own way; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Civic prayers and national days of prayer have had |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | a long and enduring history in America, dating back to the First |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Continental Congress in 1775; the annual National Day of Prayer |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | was established by Congress in 1952; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, The founders of our nation had a strong belief in |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | God and in the power of prayer, and the National Day of Prayer is |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | an opportunity for citizens to reflect on our history and pay |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | homage to our moral and religious heritage; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, This year, for the 20th consecutive year, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | residents of the Greater Channel Area are gathering on the steps |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | of Galena Park City Hall to celebrate the National Day of Prayer; |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 20 | 20 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Legislature, hereby commend the residents of the Greater Channel |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Area for observing the National Day of Prayer and extend best |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | wishes for a moving and inspirational event; and, be it further |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 25 | 25 | | the occasion as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
