55 WHEREAS, The untimely death of attorney William Dean
66 Peisen on April 9, 2009, at the age of 51, has deeply saddened the
77 Rio Grande Valley community and brought a great loss to his
88 family and friends; and
99 WHEREAS, The son of Jo Anne and George Peisen, Bill Peisen
1010 was born on October 10, 1957, in Eldora, Iowa; he graduated from
1111 Iowa State University with a bachelor's degree in economics and
1212 went on to law school there, serving on the board of editors of
1313 the Iowa Law Review and graduating with distinction; and
1414 WHEREAS, Mr. Peisen was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1983
1515 and to the bar of the United States District Court for the
1616 Southern District of Texas the following year; board certified in
1717 civil trial law, he focused his successful solo practice on civil
1818 trial and appellate law with an emphasis on commercial
1919 litigation, and he was greatly respected for his knowledge, his
2020 professionalism, and his confident and courteous manner in the
2121 courtroom; and
2222 WHEREAS, A dedicated civic leader, he served on the board
2323 of the McAllen Independent School District from 1996 to 2002,
2424 including one year as president; moreover, he gave generously of
2525 his time and talent for many years to the McAllen Youth Soccer
2626 League and to various school activities; he served on the board
2727 of the McAllen Airport and provided his legal counsel to Saint
2828 John's Episcopal School on a pro bono basis; and
2929 WHEREAS, Known as a true gentleman, Bill Peisen won many
3030 friends with his warmth, kindness, and delightful sense of humor,
3131 and memories of him will be forever cherished by those who were
3232 privileged to share in his love and affection; now, therefore, be
3333 it
3434 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
3535 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Bill Peisen and
3636 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
3737 wife, Val Peisen; to his children, Marty, Grant, Lisa Marie,
3838 Alex, and Jessica; to his father, George Peisen; to his brother,
3939 John Peisen, and his wife, Mary; to his father-in-law, Joe
4040 LaMantia, Jr., and his wife, Derrelene; to his brothers-in-law
4141 and their wives, Joe LaMantia III and Marilyn, Greg LaMantia and
4242 Dru, Steve LaMantia and Linda, and Tony LaMantia and Jennifer;
4343 and to his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further
4444 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4545 his family, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
4646 in memory of Bill Peisen.
