| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay |

| 3 | 3 | | tribute to Jewel Walder on the grand occasion of her 100th |

| 4 | 4 | | birthday; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, This gracious lady is well known for her charm and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | generosity of spirit, and she is a revered resident of her |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | community; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Jewel Walder was born to Barge and Annie Smith on |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | May 27, 1909, in Hallsville; she married Luther Walder, and the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | couple had three sons; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Walder, who is affectionately known as Mama Jewel, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | has watched her cherished family grow to include 11 grandchildren, 32 |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | great-grandchildren, and 21 great-great-grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Walder worked for many years at Parkland |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Hospital and at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas, from |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | which she retired in 1975; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, A devout Christian, she practices her faith in her |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | daily life, and she is a member of Marsalis Avenue Church of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Christ; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Walder is a beloved and respected member of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | her community; she is noted for her courage, her compassion for |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | others, and her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest; |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, hereby recognize Jewel Walder as a treasured |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | citizen of our state and congratulate her on her 100th birthday; |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | and, be it further |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 29 | 29 | | her as a memento of this special day in her life. |
