4	4	Gerald Spear Connell, Jr.
5	5	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
6	6	citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Gerald Spear
7	7	Connell, Jr., who died April 3, 2009, at the age of 77; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Jerry Connell was born in San Antonio on February
9	9	7, 1932, to Gerald S. Connell, Sr., and Gladys Whitley Connell;
10	10	he became a talented magician, and in his early years, he took his
11	11	magic show to cities and towns across Texas; and
12	12	WHEREAS, Known as one of "San Antonio's Finest," Jerry
13	13	served his community as a San Antonio police officer for 13 years
14	14	and as a constable of Precinct 2 for 22 years; and
15	15	WHEREAS, Jerry had a passion for all types of music; he
16	16	played bass guitar in a country band, and over the years, he
17	17	became friends with many country singers; he collected all types
18	18	of music, from opera to country, and had a collection of close to
19	19	400,000 recordings, which he wished to bequeath to the music
20	20	department at Texas A&M University; and
21	21	WHEREAS, He had a zest for adventure and an outgoing
22	22	personality that endeared him to all who knew him; he was a
23	23	devoted husband, father, and brother, and he leaves behind
24	24	memories that will be treasured forever by his family and many
25	25	friends; now, therefore, be it
26	26	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
27	27	Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
28	28	family of Gerald Spear Connell, Jr.: his wife of 53 years, Joan
29	29	Slavin Connell; his son, Gerald S. Connell III; his daughter and
30	30	her husband, Gretchen and Tony Allen; his sisters, Gayle Olenick
31	31	and Gloria Weiss; and his four grandchildren; and, be it further
32	32	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
33	33	his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
34	34	Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
35	35	memory of Gerald Spear Connell, Jr.
