44 Gerald Spear Connell, Jr.
55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Gerald Spear
77 Connell, Jr., who died April 3, 2009, at the age of 77; and
88 WHEREAS, Jerry Connell was born in San Antonio on February
99 7, 1932, to Gerald S. Connell, Sr., and Gladys Whitley Connell;
1010 he became a talented magician, and in his early years, he took his
1111 magic show to cities and towns across Texas; and
1212 WHEREAS, Known as one of "San Antonio's Finest," Jerry
1313 served his community as a San Antonio police officer for 13 years
1414 and as a constable of Precinct 2 for 22 years; and
1515 WHEREAS, Jerry had a passion for all types of music; he
1616 played bass guitar in a country band, and over the years, he
1717 became friends with many country singers; he collected all types
1818 of music, from opera to country, and had a collection of close to
1919 400,000 recordings, which he wished to bequeath to the music
2020 department at Texas A&M University; and
2121 WHEREAS, He had a zest for adventure and an outgoing
2222 personality that endeared him to all who knew him; he was a
2323 devoted husband, father, and brother, and he leaves behind
2424 memories that will be treasured forever by his family and many
2525 friends; now, therefore, be it
2626 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
2727 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
2828 family of Gerald Spear Connell, Jr.: his wife of 53 years, Joan
2929 Slavin Connell; his son, Gerald S. Connell III; his daughter and
3030 her husband, Gretchen and Tony Allen; his sisters, Gayle Olenick
3131 and Gloria Weiss; and his four grandchildren; and, be it further
3232 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3333 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3434 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
3535 memory of Gerald Spear Connell, Jr.
