5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
---|
6 | 6 | | citizens of Houston in mourning the loss of Frank Alvarado, who |
---|
7 | 7 | | died February 11, 2009, at the age of 79; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Frank Alvarado was born October 4, 1929, in Marble |
---|
9 | 9 | | Falls; he was an exemplary citizen, respected in the community |
---|
10 | 10 | | for his many achievements; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Alvarado worked for more than 50 years in the |
---|
12 | 12 | | construction trades as a union cement mason; he played a role in |
---|
13 | 13 | | the construction of many of Houston's landmark structures, |
---|
14 | 14 | | including Texas Children's Hospital, Saint Luke's Hospital, and |
---|
15 | 15 | | the University of Houston; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Alvarado married Ida Melchor on June 12, 1947, |
---|
17 | 17 | | and the couple raised five children in the East End community of |
---|
18 | 18 | | Houston; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, A devout Catholic who practiced his faith in his |
---|
20 | 20 | | daily life, Mr. Alvarado was an active participant at Saint |
---|
21 | 21 | | Patrick's Catholic Church and Saint Alphonsus Catholic Church; |
---|
22 | 22 | | he also gave his time and energy wholeheartedly to the activities |
---|
23 | 23 | | of the Knights of Columbus, Council 4577; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, Mr. |
---|
25 | 25 | | Alvarado gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, valued |
---|
26 | 26 | | counsel, and strength of purpose will not be forgotten by those |
---|
27 | 27 | | who knew him; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and |
---|
29 | 29 | | grandfather, and his family and many friends will long cherish |
---|
30 | 30 | | their treasured memories of his life and his many achievements; |
---|
31 | 31 | | now, therefore, be it |
---|
32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
---|
33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
34 | 34 | | family of Frank Alvarado: his wife of 61 years, Ida Alvarado; his |
---|
35 | 35 | | children, Frank Alvarado, Jr., and Yolanda, Robert, Elizabeth, |
---|
36 | 36 | | and Carol Alvarado; and his six grandchildren and five |
---|
37 | 37 | | great-grandchildren; and, be it further |
---|
38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

39 | 39 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |

40 | 40 | | Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
