55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of Houston in mourning the loss of Frank Alvarado, who
77 died February 11, 2009, at the age of 79; and
88 WHEREAS, Frank Alvarado was born October 4, 1929, in Marble
99 Falls; he was an exemplary citizen, respected in the community
1010 for his many achievements; and
1111 WHEREAS, Mr. Alvarado worked for more than 50 years in the
1212 construction trades as a union cement mason; he played a role in
1313 the construction of many of Houston's landmark structures,
1414 including Texas Children's Hospital, Saint Luke's Hospital, and
1515 the University of Houston; and
1616 WHEREAS, Mr. Alvarado married Ida Melchor on June 12, 1947,
1717 and the couple raised five children in the East End community of
1818 Houston; and
1919 WHEREAS, A devout Catholic who practiced his faith in his
2020 daily life, Mr. Alvarado was an active participant at Saint
2121 Patrick's Catholic Church and Saint Alphonsus Catholic Church;
2222 he also gave his time and energy wholeheartedly to the activities
2323 of the Knights of Columbus, Council 4577; and
2424 WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, Mr.
2525 Alvarado gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, valued
2626 counsel, and strength of purpose will not be forgotten by those
2727 who knew him; and
2828 WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and
2929 grandfather, and his family and many friends will long cherish
3030 their treasured memories of his life and his many achievements;
3131 now, therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
3333 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3434 family of Frank Alvarado: his wife of 61 years, Ida Alvarado; his
3535 children, Frank Alvarado, Jr., and Yolanda, Robert, Elizabeth,
3636 and Carol Alvarado; and his six grandchildren and five
3737 great-grandchildren; and, be it further
3838 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3939 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4040 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4141 memory of Frank Alvarado.
