SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 812 In Memory of James William Norman III WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of James William Norman III, who died April 21, 2009, at the age of 65; and WHEREAS, James William Norman III was born June 27, 1943, in Austin; he graduated from Austin High School and went on to earn bachelor's and master's degrees in history from The University of Texas at Austin and a law degree from The University of Texas School of Law; and WHEREAS, Dedicated to public service, Jim Norman was a master administrative law judge at the State Office of Administrative Hearings; he had been a member of this distinguished agency for 17 years, since serving as one of its five original administrative law judges when the office opened in 1992; and WHEREAS, Judge Norman brought an impressive intellect, a strong work ethic, and a deep knowledge and understanding of the law to his position, and his body of work will guide and inform the office's administrative law judges for many years to come; and WHEREAS, Prior to his service at the State Office of Administrative Hearings, Mr. Norman had been chief clerk and associate commissioner and chief hearings officer at the Texas Department of Insurance; and WHEREAS, Mr. Norman was active in civic and professional affairs, serving as chair of the Administrative Law Section of the State Bar of Texas and as president of the Jung Society of Austin; and WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he was a generous mentor to his younger colleagues, and his wisdom, his enthusiasm for life, and his valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and WHEREAS, Jim Norman was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and his family and friends will long cherish the memories of his life and his many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of James William Norman III: his beloved wife, Maggie; his children, Jim, Amy, and Sarah; his stepchildren, Meredith Horn and Allen Drexel; his grandchildren, Hunter, Olivia, and Sophia Norman; and his stepgrandchildren, Wyatt, Montana, Carson, and Hutton Horn; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of James William Norman III.
