| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of United Transportation Union national |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | legislative director James "Brokenrail" Brunkenhoefer, who died |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | December 19, 2008, at the age of 61; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, James Brunkenhoefer was born in Texas on July 23, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 1947, and began his railroad career in 1966 as a trainman for the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Southern Pacific Transportation Company on the Dallas-Sabine |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | District; he was promoted to engineer in 1971 and held seniority |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | in train and engine service crafts over those Union Pacific lines |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | in Texas and Louisiana; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, He was elected vice chairperson of United |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Transportation Union Local 83 in Houston in 1969; he served as |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | local president, vice president, legislative representative, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | delegate, organizer, and member of the board of trustees; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, He was named alternate Texas state legislative |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | director in 1980 and state director in 1982; he was elected |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | national legislative director at the union's quadrennial |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | convention in 1987 and was reelected to the position five times; |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, James Brunkenhoefer was a highly respected |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | gentleman who was widely acclaimed as one of the most effective |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | persons in his field; he will be greatly missed by his family, his |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | colleagues, and his friends; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of James |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Brunkenhoefer and extend sincere condolences to his bereaved |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | wife, Judy Sinkin; and, be it further |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | memory of James Brunkenhoefer. |
