55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of United Transportation Union national
77 legislative director James "Brokenrail" Brunkenhoefer, who died
88 December 19, 2008, at the age of 61; and
99 WHEREAS, James Brunkenhoefer was born in Texas on July 23,
1010 1947, and began his railroad career in 1966 as a trainman for the
1111 Southern Pacific Transportation Company on the Dallas-Sabine
1212 District; he was promoted to engineer in 1971 and held seniority
1313 in train and engine service crafts over those Union Pacific lines
1414 in Texas and Louisiana; and
1515 WHEREAS, He was elected vice chairperson of United
1616 Transportation Union Local 83 in Houston in 1969; he served as
1717 local president, vice president, legislative representative,
1818 delegate, organizer, and member of the board of trustees; and
1919 WHEREAS, He was named alternate Texas state legislative
2020 director in 1980 and state director in 1982; he was elected
2121 national legislative director at the union's quadrennial
2222 convention in 1987 and was reelected to the position five times;
2323 and
2424 WHEREAS, James Brunkenhoefer was a highly respected
2525 gentleman who was widely acclaimed as one of the most effective
2626 persons in his field; he will be greatly missed by his family, his
2727 colleagues, and his friends; now, therefore, be it
2828 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
2929 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of James
3030 Brunkenhoefer and extend sincere condolences to his bereaved
3131 wife, Judy Sinkin; and, be it further
3232 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3333 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3434 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
3535 memory of James Brunkenhoefer.
