SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 820 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Ed Smith, who is retiring on April 30, 2009, after more than 37 years of outstanding service with Macy's; and WHEREAS, Mr. Smith began his career in February of 1972 at Foley's Department Store, which later became Macy's; he started as a credit promotion manager and rose through the ranks to hold several executive positions, most recently vice president of public relations, special events, community affairs and visitor services for the Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana region; and WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Mr. Smith has been noted for his superior organizational skills and expertise; talented and resourceful, he has handled his many responsibilities with exceptional efficiency and dedication; and WHEREAS, Active in civic affairs, Mr. Smith has served many local organizations, including AIDS Foundation Houston, the Alley Theatre, Casa de Esperanza de los Nios, the Downtown Houston Alliance, and Ronald McDonald House; and WHEREAS, An exemplary employee, Mr. Smith is respected and admired by his colleagues, and his presence at Macy's will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas hereby commend Ed Smith on his many years of exceptional service to Macy's and extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
