1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 824
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great
3	3	pleasure in recognizing the fifth class of the Senator Gregory
4	4	Luna Legislative Scholars and Fellows Program, offered through
5	5	the Senate Hispanic Research Council and named in memory of
6	6	Senator Gregory Luna of San Antonio; and
7	7	WHEREAS, A true champion for the underrepresented and
8	8	underserved in Texas, Senator Luna dedicated his life to public
9	9	service and fought for educational equity; and
10	10	WHEREAS, As a tribute to Senator Luna's admirable work in
11	11	the Senate, this prestigious program was created to provide
12	12	opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students from
13	13	across the state to serve as full-time legislative assistants in
14	14	the Texas Senate and acquire the training necessary to become
15	15	successful leaders for our great state; and
16	16	WHEREAS, These Scholars and Fellows perform a variety of
17	17	legislative tasks and are learning firsthand how public policy is
18	18	shaped; they also coordinated the Third Biennial Senator Gregory
19	19	Luna Scholars Youth Leadership Institute, which assisted high
20	20	school students from the historic Edgewood Independent School
21	21	District with successful completion of their college admission
22	22	process and gave them an inside look at the legislative process; and
23	23	WHEREAS, The following Scholars and Fellows have
24	24	demonstrated outstanding dedication and achievement in Senate
25	25	offices: Anglica Aguilar from El Paso, serving in the office of
26	26	State Senator Judith Zaffirini; Adn Arriaga from Jasper,
27	27	serving in the office of State Senator John Whitmire; Natalie
28	28	Fontenot from Orange, serving in the office of State Senator
29	29	Eddie Lucio at the International Relations and Trade Committee;
30	30	Martha Perez Montalvo from Denton, serving in the office of State
31	31	Senator Kip Averitt at the Natural Resources Committee; Rodolfo
32	32	Morales III from Laredo, serving in the office of State Senator
33	33	Mario Gallegos, Jr.; Roque Planas from Virginia Beach, serving in
34	34	the office of State Senator Kirk Watson; Claudia Ordaz from El
35	35	Paso, serving in the office of State Senator Eliot Shapleigh;
36	36	Cristal Retana from Farmers Branch, serving in the office of
37	37	State Senator Jeff Wentworth; Kristilyn Rehmann from Spring,

45	45	del Norte region, serving in the office of State Senator Robert
46	46	Duncan at the State Affairs Committee; and Bianca Villescas from
47	47	Edinburg, serving in the office of State Senator Royce West; now,
48	48	therefore, be it
49	49	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
50	50	Legislature, hereby commend these promising students for their
51	51	remarkable service this session and wish them continued success
52	52	as they prepare to become the future leaders of our great state;
53	53	and, be it further
54	54	RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be presented to
55	55	them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
