1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 996
2	2	WHEREAS, It is a pleasure for the Texas Senate to pay
3	3	tribute to one of its most respected and beloved longtime staff
4	4	members, Dianne Arrington, who is retiring as the Senate Journal
5	5	Clerk after more than 27 years of loyal service to the Senate and
6	6	more than 34 years of service to the state; and
7	7	WHEREAS, Prior to joining the Texas Senate, Dianne worked
8	8	for the Texas House of Representatives for nearly two years and
9	9	with the Texas Legislative Council for four years; she joined the
10	10	Senate Journal Office in 1981, became the Assistant Journal Clerk
11	11	in 1988, and was promoted to the position of Journal Clerk in
12	12	1991; she has been a fixture on the Senate floor through 11
13	13	regular legislative sessions and 17 called sessions; over that
14	14	long course, she has never missed even a single day of session;
15	15	and
16	16	WHEREAS, As head of the Journal Department, Dianne has
17	17	handled her wide-ranging responsibilities with the utmost
18	18	dedication and professionalism; while her position would be a
19	19	daunting challenge for anyone, Dianne has distinguished herself
20	20	by exhibiting both poise and perseverance in carrying out her
21	21	duties; and
22	22	WHEREAS, As Journal Clerk, she has been responsible for the
23	23	accurate accounting of the Senate's daily proceedings and
24	24	debates during sessions and the documentation of bills and
25	25	resolutions that were passed, the amendments presented, and the
26	26	votes that were taken; required to be present on the floor
27	27	whenever the Senate is in session, she is noted for her strict
28	28	attention to floor debate, for her good humor, for her
29	29	much-needed stamina, and, most certainly, for her valuable role
30	30	as the one-and-only candy custodian; and
31	31	WHEREAS, As an exemplary legislative employee and officer,
32	32	Dianne has effectively handled her heavy workloads and deadlines
33	33	with patience and resolve; she is known for her wit and her smile
34	34	and for treating others with warmth and respect; and
35	35	WHEREAS, A little known facet of Dianne's personality is
36	36	her love of adventure; whether hang gliding in Hawaii or cruising
37	37	on the seven seas, she lives life to the fullest, with evident
38	38	relish and enjoyment; and
39	39	WHEREAS, A favorite among those who walk the Capitol halls
40	40	and a cherished friend to many, Dianne will be greatly missed by
41	41	all in the legislature who have had the privilege of knowing her,
42	42	working with her, and laughing with her; now, therefore, be it
43	43	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
44	44	Legislature, hereby commend Dianne Arrington on her outstanding
45	45	service to the Senate and her exceptional leadership as Senate
46	46	Journal Clerk and extend to her best wishes for the next chapter
47	47	of her life yet to be explored; and, be it further
48	48	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
49	49	honor of Dianne Arrington as an expression of esteem from the
50	50	Texas Senate.
