9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 81.054, Government Code, is amended by | |
11 | 11 | adding Subsection (m) to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | (m) A member is not required to pay a membership fee for a | |
13 | 13 | year in which the member is in good standing and employed as a | |
14 | 14 | full-time attorney by a board, commission, department, agency, | |
15 | 15 | office, or other entity of this state's government. The state bar | |
16 | 16 | shall adopt rules governing the proration of a membership fee paid | |
17 | 17 | by an attorney who is not employed by this state's government for an | |
18 | 18 | entire year. | |
19 | 19 | SECTION 2. Section 81.054(m), Government Code, as added by | |
20 | 20 | this Act, applies to a membership fee for membership or renewal of | |
21 | 21 | membership in the State Bar of Texas that becomes due on or after | |
22 | 22 | the effective date of this Act. A membership fee for membership or | |
23 | 23 | renewal of membership that becomes due before the effective date of | |
24 | 24 | this Act is governed by the law in effect on the date the membership | |
25 | 25 | fee becomes due, and the former law is continued in effect for that | |
26 | 26 | purpose. | |
27 | 27 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect January 1, 2012. |
