77 relating to the State Bar of Texas membership dues for an attorney
88 employed by this state's government.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 81.054, Government Code, is amended by
1111 adding Subsection (m) to read as follows:
1212 (m) A member is not required to pay a membership fee for a
1313 year in which the member is in good standing and employed as a
1414 full-time attorney by a board, commission, department, agency,
1515 office, or other entity of this state's government. The state bar
1616 shall adopt rules governing the proration of a membership fee paid
1717 by an attorney who is not employed by this state's government for an
1818 entire year.
1919 SECTION 2. Section 81.054(m), Government Code, as added by
2020 this Act, applies to a membership fee for membership or renewal of
2121 membership in the State Bar of Texas that becomes due on or after
2222 the effective date of this Act. A membership fee for membership or
2323 renewal of membership that becomes due before the effective date of
2424 this Act is governed by the law in effect on the date the membership
2525 fee becomes due, and the former law is continued in effect for that
2626 purpose.
2727 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect January 1, 2012.
