88 AN ACT
99 relating to a requirement of a commitment to serve a certain minimum
1010 term before a person may be appointed as a member of a local school
1111 health advisory council.
1212 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1313 SECTION 1. Section 28.004(d), Education Code, is amended to
1414 read as follows:
1515 (d) The board of trustees shall appoint at least five
1616 members to the local school health advisory council. A person may
1717 be appointed as a member of the council only if, before appointment,
1818 the person agrees to serve for at least one year. A majority of the
1919 members must be persons who are parents of students enrolled in the
2020 district and who are not employed by the district. One of those
2121 members shall serve as chair or co-chair of the council. The board
2222 of trustees also may appoint one or more persons from each of the
2323 following groups or a representative from a group other than a group
2424 specified under this subsection:
2525 (1) public school teachers;
2626 (2) public school administrators;
2727 (3) district students;
2828 (4) health care professionals;
2929 (5) the business community;
3030 (6) law enforcement;
3131 (7) senior citizens;
3232 (8) the clergy; and
3333 (9) nonprofit health organizations.
3434 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3535 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3636 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3737 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3838 Act takes effect September 1, 2011.
