A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the continuing education requirements for optometrists
and therapeutic optometrists.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 351.308, Occupations Code, is amended by
amending Subsection (c) and adding Subsection (c-1) to read as
follows:
(c) An optometrist or therapeutic optometrist shall fulfill
the continuing education requirements by:
(1) attending a continuing education course [courses]
sponsored by an accredited college of optometry;
(2) attending [or] a course approved by the board; or
(3) completing an online or journal continuing
education course sponsored by an accredited college of optometry.
(c-1) Continuing education course [Course] attendance or
completion must be certified to the board on a form approved by the
board. The license holder shall submit the certification with the
license renewal application and fee or ensure that the
certification is submitted on renewal of the license.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2011.
