99 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1010 AN ACT
1111 relating to the designation of State Highway 20 as a historic
1212 highway.
1313 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1414 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 442, Government Code, is
1515 amended by adding Section 442.027 to read as follows:
1616 Sec. 442.027. STATE HIGHWAY 20 AS TEXAS HISTORIC HIGHWAY.
1717 (a) The commission shall cooperate with the Texas Department of
1818 Transportation to designate, interpret, and market State Highway 20
1919 as a Texas historic highway.
2020 (b) To supplement revenue available for the purposes under
2121 Subsection (a), the commission and the Texas Department of
2222 Transportation may pursue federal funds dedicated to highway
2323 enhancement.
2424 (c) A designation of State Highway 20 as a Texas historic
2525 highway may not be construed as a designation under the National
2626 Historic Preservation Act (16 U.S.C. Section 470 et seq.).
2727 (d) The Texas Department of Transportation is not required
2828 to design, construct, or erect a marker under this section unless a
2929 grant or donation of funds is made to the department to cover the
3030 cost of the design, construction, and erection of the marker. Money
3131 received to cover the cost of the marker shall be deposited to the
3232 credit of the state highway fund.
3333 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2011.
