                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            April 7, 2011      TO: Honorable Sid Miller, Chair, House Committee on Homeland Security & Public Safety      FROM: John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:HB2256 by Phillips (Relating to abating or deferring the suspension or revocation of a license issued by the Department of Public Safety for victims of identity theft.), As Introduced    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would amend the Government Code to permit the Department of Public Safety (DPS) to abate or defer a mandatory suspension or revocation of a drivers license for certain victims of identity theft. The bill would take effect immediately upon a two-thirds vote of all the members in each house. Otherwise the bill would take effect September 1, 2011.  The Department of Public Safety has determined that the cost of implementing the provisions of the bill would not be significant.
