 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to requiring a municipality to pay for the expenses of an
 election contest for a person elected to the governing body of the
 municipality.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1.  Chapter 221, Election Code, is amended by adding
 Section 221.0135 to read as follows:
 Sec. 221.0135.  EXPENSES OF CONTESTEE WHO IS ELECTED TO
 GOVERNING BODY OF CITY. A contestee who is elected to the governing
 body of a city is entitled to have the city pay the expenses of
 defending the election contest, including reasonable attorney's
 fees, court costs, and similar related expenses.
 SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
 Act takes effect September 1, 2011.
