 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to the appeal of an indefinite suspension of a municipal
 firefighter or police officer.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1.  Section 143.120(c), Local Government Code, is
 amended to read as follows:
 (c)  In its decision, the commission shall state whether the
 suspended fire fighter or police officer is:
 (1)  permanently dismissed from the fire or police
 department;
 (2)  temporarily suspended from the department, for a
 period not to exceed 90 calendar days; or
 (3)  restored to the person's former position or status
 in the department's classified service.
 SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
 Act takes effect September 1, 2011.
