| 8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Sections 502.180(b) and (c), Transportation | |
| 10 | 10 | Code, are amended to read as follows: | |
| 11 | 11 | (b) Subject to Subchapter I, the department shall issue only | |
| 12 | 12 | one license plate or set of plates for a vehicle during an | |
| 13 | 13 | eight-year [a five-year] period. | |
| 14 | 14 | (c) On application and payment of the prescribed fee for a | |
| 15 | 15 | renewal of the registration of a vehicle for each [the first, | |
| 16 | 16 | second, third, or fourth] registration year after the issuance of a | |
| 17 | 17 | license plate or set of plates for the vehicle, the department shall | |
| 18 | 18 | issue a registration insignia for the validation of the license | |
| 19 | 19 | plate or plates to be attached as provided by Subsection (d). | |
| 20 | 20 | SECTION 2. Section 502.184(g), Transportation Code, is | |
| 21 | 21 | amended to read as follows: | |
| 22 | 22 | (g) Replacement license plates may be used in the | |
| 23 | 23 | registration year in which the plates are issued and during each | |
| 24 | 24 | succeeding year of the eight-year [five-year] period as prescribed | |
| 25 | 25 | by Section 502.180(b) if the registration insignia is properly | |
| 26 | 26 | attached. | |
| 27 | 27 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
