A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to a political party's use of corporate or labor union
contributions.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 257.004(a), Election Code, is amended to
read as follows:
(a) Beginning on the 60th day before the date of the general
election for state and county officers and continuing through the
day of the election, a political party may not knowingly accept a
contribution authorized by Section 253.104 [or make an expenditure
from the account required by Section 257.002].
SECTION 2. (a) The change in law made by this Act applies
only to an offense committed on or after September 1, 2011. For
purposes of this section, an offense is committed before September
1, 2011, if any element of the offense occurs before that date.
(b) An offense committed before September 1, 2011, is
covered by the law in effect when the offense was committed, and the
former law is continued in effect for that purpose.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2011.
