| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 25.1033(a), Government Code, is amended | |
| 11 | 11 | to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (a) A county criminal court at law in Harris County has the: | |
| 13 | 13 | (1) criminal jurisdiction provided by law for county | |
| 14 | 14 | courts; | |
| 15 | 15 | (2) concurrent jurisdiction with county civil courts | |
| 16 | 16 | at law for Harris County to hear appeals of the suspension of | |
| 17 | 17 | driver's licenses and original proceedings regarding occupational | |
| 18 | 18 | driver's licenses; and | |
| 19 | 19 | (3) appellate jurisdiction in appeals of criminal | |
| 20 | 20 | cases from justice courts and municipal courts in the county. | |
| 21 | 21 | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only | |
| 22 | 22 | to an action filed in a county criminal court at law in Harris | |
| 23 | 23 | County on or after the effective date of this Act. An action filed | |
| 24 | 24 | in a county criminal court at law in Harris County before the | |
| 25 | 25 | effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the | |
| 26 | 26 | date the action was filed, and the former law is continued in effect | |
| 27 | 27 | for that purpose. | |
| 28 | 28 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
