99 AN ACT
1010 relating to membership of the state continuing advisory committee
1111 for special education services.
1212 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1313 SECTION 1. Section 29.006, Education Code, is amended to
1414 read as follows:
1515 Sec. 29.006. CONTINUING ADVISORY COMMITTEE. (a) The
1616 governor shall appoint a continuing advisory committee, composed of
1717 17 members, under 20 U.S.C. Section 1412(a)(21). At least one
1818 member appointed under this subsection must be a director of
1919 special education programs for a school district or for a shared
2020 services arrangement of multiple school districts as provided by
2121 Section 29.007.
2222 (b) The appointments are not subject to confirmation by the
2323 senate.
2424 (c) Members of the committee are appointed for staggered
2525 terms of four years with the terms of eight or nine members expiring
2626 on February 1 of each odd-numbered year.
2727 SECTION 2. Not later than February 1, 2013, the governor
2828 shall appoint a member to the continuing advisory committee as
2929 necessary to ensure that the composition of the committee complies
3030 with Section 29.006, Education Code, as amended by this Act.
3131 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3232 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3333 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3434 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3535 Act takes effect September 1, 2011.
