88 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
99 WHEREAS, The State of Texas enjoys a far-reaching reputation
1010 for its diverse and distinctive foods and for its many highly
1111 regarded restaurants; and
1212 WHEREAS, While exceptional eateries can be found throughout
1313 the state, certain communities stand apart for offering a
1414 concentration of popular and unique restaurants; of these, the city
1515 of Roanoke is deserving of particular recognition for being an
1616 immensely popular dining destination; and
1717 WHEREAS, Roanoke is of modest size, with a population of
1818 6,000, yet its lineup of notable restaurants attracts patrons from
1919 throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex as well as from other
2020 parts of the state; this charming city includes more than 40 eating
2121 establishments, and they combine to make Roanoke a diner's delight;
2222 and
2323 WHEREAS, Oak Street in downtown Roanoke is a compelling
2424 destination for patrons, and the many vintage buildings in this
2525 attractive district have earned it a spot on the National Register
2626 of Historic Places; moreover, the downtown businesses present a
2727 great variety of cuisines and dining experiences, ranging from
2828 four-star gourmet food to Mexican specialties; and
2929 WHEREAS, Not far away, more thriving restaurants are found
3030 along Highway 377/Front Street, and other areas of Roanoke also
3131 uphold the city's tradition of good eating; these include the Byron
3232 Nelson Parkway/Business 114 thoroughfare and the intersection of
3333 Highways 377 and 114; and
3434 WHEREAS, The individuality and outstanding quality of
3535 Roanoke's dining spots have earned this historic community the
3636 admiration of numerous culinary enthusiasts and have made it a
3737 favorite place to visit, and the city's flourishing restaurant
3838 scene is a testament to the eclectic and delicious epicurean
3939 offerings of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
4040 RESOLVED, That the 82nd Legislature of the State of Texas
4141 hereby designate Roanoke as the Unique Dining Capital of Texas.
