H.R. No. 1085
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Forbes Middle School Band in Georgetown is
receiving a Sudler Cup from the John Philip Sousa Foundation at a
ceremony on May 24, 2011; and
WHEREAS, The Sudler Cup is an annual award presented to
junior high and middle school concert band programs that have
demonstrated a consistent commitment to excellence over a period of
several years; and
WHEREAS, The Forbes Middle School Band has been named best
overall outstanding middle school band at the D.C. Festival of
Bands twice since 2004, and it has earned the highest award granted
by the University Interscholastic League eight times in the decade
since the school's opening; moreover, the Forbes Honors Band was
one of only three middle school bands in the nation selected to
perform at the 2009 Midwest Clinic, an international band and
orchestra conference; and
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of director Jackie Fullerton
and associate director Lauren Esparza, the talented and hardworking
student musicians of the Forbes Middle School Band have earned
great distinction for themselves and their school with this
prestigious award; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the Forbes Middle School Band for
receiving the Sudler Cup from the John Philip Sousa Foundation and
extend to the band's directors and musicians sincere best wishes
for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the band as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
