 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, An inspiring couple whose lives have been enhanced
 by a great and enduring love, Chester and Mildred Smith of Burleson
 celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on February 11, 2011; and
 WHEREAS, Chester Claude Smith and the former Mildred Agnes
 Sweatman were joined in matrimony at a ceremony held in Benton,
 Arkansas, in 1940; they have been blessed with two sons, Chester
 Lewis Smith and his wife, Linda, and Donald Claude Smith and his
 wife, Sherry, and their grandchildren include Dorinda McCoy and her
 husband, Tony, Taylor Smith, Katherine Daley and her husband,
 Nathan, Thomas Smith and his wife, Crystal, and the late Chad Smith;
 with the passing years, Mr. and Mrs. Smith have shared in the
 pleasure of welcoming into their family five great-grandchildren,
 Amy Kimbrell and her husband, Quinn, Christopher McCoy, Miles
 Daley, Maeve Daley, and Jackson Smith, and three
 great-great-grandchildren, Maddie, Maddix, and McKinsey Kimbrell;
 and
 WHEREAS, For the first dozen years of their marriage, the
 couple lived in Little Rock, Arkansas; they moved to Fort Worth in
 1952 before settling in Burleson in 1960; Mr. Smith retired in 1982
 as a switchman with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and served
 as the city's first paid fire marshal; Mrs. Smith has been a
 dedicated homemaker throughout their marriage; and
 WHEREAS, Inveterate travelers, the couple have visited 46
 states in the U.S.; they shared a love of square dancing in their
 younger days, and Mr. Smith has also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and
 woodworking, while Mrs. Smith's hobbies have included embroidery,
 crocheting, and knitting; in addition, they are members of the
 First United Methodist Church of Burleson; they attribute the
 longevity of their successful relationship to having patience and
 resolving issues before day's end; and
 WHEREAS, A 71st wedding anniversary is a celebration of love
 that has truly stood the test of time, and Chester and Mildred Smith
 are among an exceptional group of men and women who can claim such a
 lasting commitment; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Chester and Mildred Smith on their
 71st wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for
 continued happiness; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Smith as an expression of high regard by
 the Texas House of Representatives.
