 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Prominent genealogist and historian Jean Ann
 Ables-Flatt of Terrell is receiving a lifetime achievement award
 from the Texas Historical Commission on April 1, 2011, a date that
 also marks this notable Texan's 81st birthday; and
 WHEREAS, A sixth generation resident of Kaufman County,
 Ms. Ables-Flatt is an emeritus member and past chair of the Kaufman
 County Historical Commission, which has earned the Distinguished
 Service Award from the Texas Historical Commission for the past 15
 years under her strong leadership; she has documented the history
 of Terrell and Kaufman County through playwriting, historical
 tours, and programs for schoolchildren and service clubs, drawing
 on her background in theater to bring the past to life; in addition,
 she has devoted more than 4,000 hours as a volunteer genealogist at
 the Riter C. Hulsey Public Library in Terrell; and
 WHEREAS, Ms. Ables-Flatt served as a member of the Texas
 Historical Commission from 1999 to 2005; the current state nominee
 for the office of Historian General for the Daughters of the
 Republic of Texas, she sponsored the first African American members
 to join that organization; and
 WHEREAS, Jean Ann Ables-Flatt has helped ensure that future
 generations will have a tangible connection with the history of
 this state, and she is truly deserving of special recognition; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby honor Jean Ann Ables-Flatt on her receipt of a
 lifetime achievement award from the Texas Historical Commission and
 extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Ms. Ables-Flatt as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
