 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The Henderson High School football team won the 2010
 University Interscholastic League 3A Division 1 state championship
 with a victory over Chapel Hill High School on December 10, 2010, at
 Cowboys Stadium in Arlington; and
 WHEREAS, In the title game, quarterback and offensive most
 valuable player Del Barnes completed 18 of 23 passes for 147 yards,
 connecting with Grayland Dunams and LaMarcus Brown for touchdowns,
 while Cord Fletcher scored on a running play, building a 21-7
 Henderson lead at halftime; Jay O'Neal delivered a clutch 47-yard
 touchdown run to put the Lions up 28-14 late in the third quarter,
 and when the final seconds ticked off the clock, the team claimed a
 28-21 win and the state championship; and
 WHEREAS, The Henderson defense played a key role in the
 triumph, holding the formidable Chapel Hill team to less than 300
 total yards, far below the 450 yards the Bulldogs had been averaging
 throughout the season; the Lions registered nine sacks, including
 four by defensive MVP Corey Fletcher and three by Jordan Leake, and
 Mr. Leake also recovered a fumble; and
 WHEREAS, Throughout this extraordinary season, head coach
 Dickey Meeks provided exceptional guidance and inspiration to his
 players, leading them to a 13-2 record; known as the "comeback team"
 for its ability to reverse deficits, Henderson notched an
 especially notable 35-32 victory against Pittsburg High School
 midway through the season, after trailing 29-6 at halftime; and
 WHEREAS, Winning a state title is the culmination of
 countless hours of hard work and an unwavering commitment to
 excellence, and these dedicated student-athletes may take
 justifiable pride in their outstanding accomplishment; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate the Henderson High School Lions
 football team on winning the 2010 UIL 3A Division 1 state
 championship and extend to the players, coaches, and staff sincere
 best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
