H.R. No. 1130 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Family, friends, and residents of Navasota are mourning the loss of Bill E. Herod, who passed away on February 25, 2011, at the age of 84; and WHEREAS, Born in Corsicana on August 24, 1926, to E. C. and May Bell Herod, Bill Herod served his country in the United States Navy before embarking on a career in highway construction; in 1952 he cofounded the Acme Bridge Company in Austin, and he spent several decades building roads and bridges throughout Central and South Texas for the Texas Department of Transportation; a proud member of the Associated General Contractors of America, he was honored with a lifetime membership by the organization in 2008; and WHEREAS, Settling in Navasota to raise his family, Mr. Herod was active in the First Baptist Church and numerous civic organizations there; he served as mayor of Navasota and also on the city council for several years; an avid outdoorsman and hunter, he owned a ranch in South Texas, where he enjoyed spending time with family and friends; he received a number of wildlife management awards for his stewardship of the land; and WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Herod benefited from the love and support of his wife, Martha, with whom he shared many happy years, until her passing in 2007; they were the parents of three treasured children, Lyn, Melisa, and Mark; and WHEREAS, Known for his leadership, work ethic, and devotion to his faith, Bill Herod will forever be remembered with great admiration and affection by all those who had the good fortune to share in his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Bill E. Herod and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his children, Lyn Herod, Melisa Callahan and her husband, Bill, and Mark Herod and his wife, Anne; to his sister, Haunara Coleman and her husband, Johnny; to his grandchildren, Clint Herod and his wife, Lindsey, Clay Herod, Amy Herod, Megan Callahan, and Cody Callahan; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bill Herod.
