 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The Dallas Independent School District is offering
 students the prestigious International Baccalaureate program
 beginning in the fall of 2011; and
 WHEREAS, Designed for the final two years of high school, the
 International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme prepares students
 for success, both in college and in life; after years of careful
 study, the two-year program has been authorized to begin at Woodrow
 Wilson High School in Dallas and will be offered to interested
 juniors and seniors who are willing to work hard and commit
 themselves to rigorous assessments with international standards;
 the program, recognized by institutions of higher learning
 throughout the world, is supplemented by pre-IB courses already
 available at the school; and
 WHEREAS, Recently marking its 80th anniversary, Woodrow
 Wilson High School is ably led by principal Ruth Vail, who helped to
 bring the IB program to the school in collaboration with Dallas ISD
 superintendent Michael Hinojosa and the district's board of
 trustees; Woodrow Wilson teachers overseeing the IB courses have
 attended workshops throughout the United States and have developed
 outlines approved by IB administrators; students completing the
 requirements of the challenging program can acquire 24 hours of
 college credit for their work; and
 WHEREAS, Further exemplifying the district's emphasis on
 high-quality educational choices for students, J. L. Long Middle
 School in Dallas is also working toward becoming an IB school; under
 the expert direction of principal Danielle Petters, this
 outstanding institution is equally committed to giving its students
 a strong educational foundation on which to build; and
 WHEREAS, In striving to achieve official status as
 International Baccalaureate schools, these Dallas ISD institutions
 are demonstrating an unwavering commitment to excellence, and they
 may take justifiable pride in their notable efforts in behalf of
 area schoolchildren; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby commend Woodrow Wilson High School and
 J. L. Long Middle School in the Dallas Independent School District
 for their efforts to offer students the International Baccalaureate
 program and extend to all those associated with the schools sincere
 best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
 for the schools as an expression of high regard by the Texas House
 of Representatives.
