H.R. No. 1199 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Pantego Youth Leadership Council is contributing immeasurably to its North Texas community by working to develop future civic leaders and volunteers; and WHEREAS, Established for the 2010-2011 school year, this exceptional program provides opportunities for middle and high school students to increase their knowledge of public issues and infrastructure and to visit with the leaders who are making decisions that affect their community; and WHEREAS, Participants receive a comprehensive look at the governmental process and have a chance to apply what they have learned in a mock election; creating a PYLC Town Hall, they gain insight into city administration, fiscal accountability, public works, and building inspection; after touring the fire and police departments, they attend a session of the municipal court; and WHEREAS, Working as a council-in-action, these notable young Texans take part in town council and board and commission meetings, and they are encouraged to give back through volunteer opportunities with local nonprofits; and WHEREAS, Through its efforts to build a more informed and involved citizenry, the Pantego Youth Leadership Council is helping to create a brighter and more promising future for the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby honor the Pantego Youth Leadership Council for its work to develop community leaders and extend to all those involved with the group sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the council as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
