H.R. No. 123 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Honorable Melvin Simons retired as justice of the peace for Precinct 4 in Parker County on December 31, 2010, having served with distinction for 12 years; and WHEREAS, Judge Simons was first elected to his position in 1998, and he was repeatedly returned to office by the voters of his district; as he concluded his service, he was the oldest sitting justice of the peace in Texas; and WHEREAS, This patriotic American was a member of the U.S. Marines during World War II and saw duty in the battles for Peleliu and Okinawa; and WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Judge Simons enjoys the love and support of his wife, Billye, and his children, Patti Clinton, Sylvia Simons, and Terry Simons; Judge Simons and his wife are active members of Hilltop Baptist Church, having been part of the congregation since 1972; and WHEREAS, The dedication and compassion demonstrated by Judge Simons have positively influenced the lives of numerous individuals, particularly the many young people who appeared before his court; his accomplishments have made Parker County an even better place to live and work, and he is greatly appreciated by the residents that he has served so well; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Judge Melvin Simons on his retirement as justice of the peace for Precinct 4 of Parker County and extend to him sincere appreciation for his exemplary public service; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Judge Simons as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
