H.R. No. 1239
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Benavides High School Lady Eagles basketball
team enjoyed a successful 2010-2011 season, capturing the District
32-1A championship and winning the bi-district crown as well; and
WHEREAS, Exemplifying the team's inspirational motto of "dig
down deep," the Lady Eagles rebounded from a slow start in district
play to put together a five-game winning streak and take first place
with a record of five victories and two defeats; and
WHEREAS, Benavides earned a bye in the bi-district round of
the University Interscholastic League state playoffs to advance to
the area round, where the Lady Eagles were defeated by Center Point
High School; and
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of head coach Celso Oliveira,
these talented student-athletes demonstrated teamwork and an
enduring commitment to excellence, and their accomplishment is a
source of great pride to their school and their many supporters in
the local community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the Benavides High School Lady
Eagles basketball team on winning district and bi-district
championships during the 2010-2011 season and extend to the team's
players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for continued
success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
