H.R. No. 1294 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Madge C. Bratton of Hewitt passed away on March 9, 2011, at the age of 82, leaving her circle of family and friends to cherish their many happy memories of time spent in her company; and WHEREAS, Madge Bratton was born in Anaconda, Montana, on July 31, 1928, to William and Clara Niven; after graduating from Anaconda High School in 1946, she attended Montana State University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in physical education in 1950; and WHEREAS, The former Madge Niven met her future husband, Don Bratton, while in college; the couple wed after graduation and enjoyed a rewarding marriage that spanned 52 years, until his passing; they became the parents of seven children, Donna, Dianne, Sharon, Mike, Don, Paul, and Karan; and WHEREAS, Before she and her husband started their family, Mrs. Bratton worked as a physical education and science teacher in Sidney, Montana; she then became a full-time homemaker, and she actively supported her children in their many school and sports activities; and WHEREAS, Known for her caring nature and beautiful smile, Mrs. Bratton was quick to offer encouragement to anyone in need of it; active in her community, she generously volunteered her time at area schools and with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, and the Hewitt Chamber of Commerce; she was a devoted member of Hewitt First United Methodist Church, where she had enjoyed performing with the bell choir; and WHEREAS, Madge Bratton possessed a generosity of spirit that expressed itself in myriad ways, and countless lives were enriched by her warmth and kindness; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Madge C. Bratton and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her children and their spouses, Donna Salazar, Sharon Itz, Dianne and Les Melcher, Mike and Sue Bratton, Don and Terri Bratton, and Paul and Tammy Bratton; to her sister, Lillian Wind; to her grandchildren, Tracy Thieman, Shanna Rodriquez, Amber Koger, Michael, Karan, and Justin Bratton, Tiffany Itz, and Brian and Melissa Melcher; to her great-grandchildren, Aaron, Matthew, and Nathan Thieman, Gideon and Ari Koger, and Caiden and Sloane Rodriquez; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Madge Bratton.
