 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Those Texans who give freely of their time and
 talents to benefit the larger community make the world a better
 place through their actions, and Doug Huddle, Jr., who passed away
 on February 17, 2011, was indeed one such person; and
 WHEREAS, Born in Ben Wheeler on March 3, 1925, Mr. Huddle
 served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy during World War II
 and went on to have a distinguished 43-year career in the oil
 industry; he was named Baytown Refiner of the Year by ExxonMobil in
 2007, and he retired from the company as chief operator; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Huddle was an active and valued resident of
 Baytown; he shared his time with such groups as Meals on Wheels, the
 American Cancer Society, and the local YMCA and Kiwanis Club, where
 he was known as the "Apple King" for his unparalleled sales figures
 at the annual fund-raiser; and
 WHEREAS, Lee College also greatly benefited from his support;
 a lifetime member of the alumni organization and a longtime member
 of the Friends of Lee College, he gave generously to a number of
 initiatives, including the renovation of the Huddle Music Hall, the
 construction of the Performing Arts Center, and the Million Dollar
 Scholarship Campaign; and
 WHEREAS, By his side in myriad worthy projects was his wife,
 Martha Jane Huddle, with whom he shared many years before her
 passing; the couple raised two children, Cindy and Doug, and a
 courtyard at Lee College was established and named in honor of Mrs.
 Huddle, as was the choral hall at the school's Performing Arts
 Center; and
 WHEREAS, A devoted family man and an active civic leader,
 Doug Huddle will be deeply missed, but the contributions that he
 made to his community and the enthusiasm and good humor that he
 brought to all his endeavors will forever inspire those who were
 privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby honor the memory of Doug Huddle, Jr., and extend
 deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his children,
 Cindy McGlothlin and her husband, Pat, and Doug Huddle and his wife,
 Dian; to his grandchildren, Shawn and Tami McGlothlin, Patrick and
 Cheryl Wimberly, Keith and Jessica Huddle, Shannon Hall, Benjamin
 Jackson, and Dr. Timothy J. Jackson; to his great-grandchildren,
 Kayli, Brianna, and Aidan McGlothlin, Saige, Meadow, and Reed
 Wimberly, and Kayla and Keiton Huddle; and to his other relatives
 and friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Doug
 Huddle, Jr.
