 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Friends and family are mourning the loss of an
 esteemed Texan, Sam Milton Bussey, Jr., of Dallas, who passed away
 on March 13, 2011, at the age of 86; and
 WHEREAS, Born in Shelby County on July 1, 1924, to Sam Milton
 Bussey, Sr., and Lona Bussey, Sam Bussey, Jr., moved to Dallas in
 1948; he founded the Bussey Trucking company, which he led as
 president, and the family business has been in operation for nearly
 five decades; and
 WHEREAS, A strong supporter of civic and arts organizations,
 Mr. Bussey contributed to educational institutions such as Paul
 Quinn College, Wiley College, and St. Philip's School and Community
 Center, as well as to the Urban League of Greater Dallas and North
 Central Texas, the Black Academy of Arts and Letters, and the March
 of Dimes; through the Sam and Ruth Bussey Foundation, he and his
 wife donated to the Dallas Black Dance Theatre and other groups, and
 he was recognized for his generosity by the Martin Luther King, Jr.
 Community Center, the African American Museum Dallas, and the
 Dallas Regional Chamber of Commerce; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Bussey enjoyed gardening and playing dominoes
 in his free time; a member of Riverside Missionary Baptist Church
 for a half-century, he also served as an usher there; and
 WHEREAS, In addition to his wife, Ruth, with whom he shared 64
 years, Mr. Bussey's family included five children, Milton,
 Anthony, Beverly, Ladine, and the late Larry Bussey, who preceded
 his father in death; and
 WHEREAS, Sam Bussey, Jr., will be deeply missed by all those
 who were privileged to share in the richness of his life, and they
 will forever remember him with admiration and affection; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Sam Milton Bussey,
 Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to
 his wife, Ruth Ola Bussey; to his sons, Milton Bussey and his wife,
 Cheryl, and Anthony Bussey and his wife, Levon; to his daughters,
 Beverly Gipson and her husband, Joseph, and Ladine Gathwright and
 her husband, Willie; to his brothers, Warren, Thomas, and William
 Bussey; to his sisters, Addie Bussey, Evie Curry, and Tilda Holman;
 to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and to his other
 relatives and friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Sam Bussey,
 Jr.
